GV II

Barn. Early C17, altered in C19. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red clay pantiles. 4 bays aligned NE-SW, aisled on SE side only, with midstrey to NW. C19 lean-to extensions each side of midstrey, of the same materials. NW elevation, original great doors (requiring repair), and one C19 halved stabled door in each lean-to. Jowled arcade posts, jowled wallposts in NW wall, aisle posts unjowled. All arched arcade braces in situ. All arched braces to cambered tiebeams in situ except one. Face-halved and bladed scarf in arcade plate. Aisle plate requiring repair. In end walls and aisle wall, straight braces trenched outside heavy studding; in NW wall, straight braces trenched inside studding. Clasped purlin roof, with collars at half-bay intervals. C20 inserted floor in the 2 NE bays. The midstrey is a separate structure, but similar in construction and date, with jowled posts at the front only, and straight braces trenched outside the studding. Short curved braces across the top corners of the great doorway. Roof of midstrey rebuilt with ridge. Shown on First Edition 25" O.S. map of 1875 as part of Chambers's Farm.
