Description

No. 152 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and residence. It dates back to the 15th century or earlier and was altered in the 19th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles and slate. The main part of the building faces northwest and features a stack at the right end, while there is a rear wing on the left side with an external stack. There are also two lean-to extensions at the back. The main range and the left wing are two storeys high, while the lean-tos are one storey.

On the ground floor, there is an early Victorian shopfront with two windows, each containing 20 horizontal panes, flanking central glazed double doors with an overlight. The shopfront is adorned with four pilasters and scrolls beneath a fascia that features two carved wreaths of bay leaves and two bunches of grapes. The first floor has two early 19th-century sash windows, each with 16 lights, and there is a plain parapet above. The main roof is tiled, while the rear pitch is raised to a low angle.

The left side of the building has a shop window of similar design and age, featuring 10 horizontal panes, pilasters, scrolls, and a fascia with two wreaths. The rest of this wall is roughcast in panels. The rear wing has a low-pitched hipped roof made of slate. On the rear elevation, there is one early 19th-century sash window with 12 lights on each floor, the upper window having louvred shutters, along with a 20th-century glazed door. The lean-to roofs are tiled. Inside, there is an early Victorian cast iron grate in a large wood-burning hearth at the right end of the shop, and the roof features a cambered tiebeam and crownpost.
