Description
Collins Farmhouse is a long-jetty house dating from the early 16th century, with 20th-century rear extensions and a two-storey porch. The building is timber-framed, with the front exposed and the rest plastered, and it has a tiled roof. It stands two storeys high and consists of three bays, following a medieval plan. Originally, there was a rear external chimney in the central bay, which was replaced by an axial chimney in the cross-entry during the late 16th century. The roof, initially constructed with crownpost, has been converted to clasped purlin. There is a rear stair tower made of re-used timber from the 20th century. The internal timber frame is exposed, featuring close-studding and curved braces that are trenched inside the studs. There is evidence of former oriels that have been removed. Additionally, there is one unglazed window on the first floor at the rear of the stack, which has exposed diamond mullions.
