Description
Old Forge Cottage is a house dating from the 13th and 17th centuries. It has two storeys and part of one storey with attics, constructed from timber framing and plaster, featuring fragments of notable old pargetting. The house is formed from an old crosswing and part of a 17th-century structure. The front displays a two-storey jettied section with a hipped peg tile roof at the northwest corner and a 20th-century small pane window in an earlier canted bay. On the first floor, there is one 19th-century two-light casement window. The one-storey and attics section has a gabled peg tile roof and a gabled two-flight dormer with a horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor features an entrance door with steps, a late 18th-century square shopfront, and a bay window with small panes. Inside the two-storey half, the early crosswing reveals a crown post roof, truncated at the front, with wide straight bracing. There is also one late 16th-century door still in place on the first floor.
