Description
Hyde Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is two storeys tall and constructed of timber and plaster. The building is positioned at right angles to the road and features a crosswing at the south end, topped with gabled roofs covered in peg tiles. The exterior includes 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, false timber framing, and a stack at the ridge line.
Inside, the cottage has a parlour/service crosswing at the south end, and the parlour end is noted to be end jettied. There is likely an open hall of one bay that includes a 17th-century double-sided stack with inglenooks; the stack in the solar wing has an elliptical plan form. Traces of many former windows can be seen, particularly in the solar, which typically features a 'hall' format with three lights on either side of a central square mullion. The tie beam archbraces are still visible in a later partition. The roof structure consists of clasped side purlins.
