Description
Hyde Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century and earlier. It is two storeys tall, timber framed, and plastered. The building features a crosswing at the west end that jetties out at the front, topped with an unusual roof that has hips and gablets at both the back and front. The main block consists of three bays, with a small gable over the crosswing and another gable over the hipped end to the east. The roofs are covered with peg tiles, and there is an off-centred 17th-century stack with four diagonal shafts.
The front elevation has two doors and a mix of 19th-century casement windows with small panes. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with an oven, an original oven door, and a heatstone. The roof contains soot-blocked, crown post type rafters from an earlier hall house. The crosswing has rough central tenons made from poor second-hand timber. The rear room of the crosswing features two diamond mullion windows with original shutters still in place. The top plate shows halved bladed scarf joints.
