Description

This is a house dating from the 15th century or earlier. It is timber-framed and has been plastered, with peg tile roofs, hipped at the front and with a gablet at the rear. A low-pitched lean-to has been added to the rear, and a square bay window with a flat roof projects forward. The front of the house is jettied, and the roof was re-roofed in the 19th century with 19 adjoining tiles, creating a roofline parallel to the street. A 2-light casement window is located on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a projecting, 18th-century square shopfront bay with small panes of glass and a cellar entrance. The shopfront’s fascia forms a hood over the entrance door, which is accompanied by a flight of steps. A large red brick stack, likely dating to the 17th century, is situated on the ridgeline, slightly off-centre. Fragments of old pargeting are present. The interior’s layout suggests a crosswing structure, though much of the original structure is now concealed.
