Description

The Kingdom Hall, originally a house and now converted into flats, dates from the late 17th century. It is a two-storey building with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with gabled peg tile roofs. The structure is essentially 'L' shaped, featuring a bulky gabled stair tower at the rear. The front of the building is jettied and includes two original console braces, a wide 20th-century square projecting bay window with small panes, and two 20th-century oriel casement windows on the first floor. The front roof slope has a wide 20th-century flat-roofed dormer.

Inside, the layout reveals a complex series of constructions, beginning with the front range that has a wide central bay flanked by two narrow bays. The stage is jettied at both the front and rear, supported by a joggled side purlin roof. The large stair tower, contemporary with the front range, features an octagonal newel post, a blocked original two-light window with an ovolo-modified glazed window, straight cut joists, and a recessed assembly at the eaves.

The leg of the 'L' is a later addition, built in partly English bond brick, likely from the late 17th century, and has an original stack on its flank. This section includes an original ground floor door opening with a chamfered head and jambs, as well as chamfered spine beams.
