Description

This is a 19th-century milestone located on the western verge of the Colchester Road, opposite the properties numbered 76 and 82 in St. Osyth. The milestone has a square plan and features a hipped top. The roadside face is inscribed with "Parish of St. Osyth." The return inscriptions are worn but are believed to indicate distances to Colchester and Clacton. This milestone is likely one of the last remaining milestones beside a public highway, along with others found at Alresford and Great Bentley.
