Description
The Cottage, dating from the 18th century, is a house located on Colchester Road in St. Osyth. It features a timber-framed structure with panel plastering and a weatherboarded return. The roof is covered with red plain tiles, and there are three red brick chimney stacks. The building has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, with a parapet and a later extension on the lower level to the right.
The facade includes a range of three windows with one larger window, all fitted with small paned vertically sliding sashes; the rightmost window is tripartite. There are reveal panels surrounding a part-glazed door that is centrally located in the original range, topped with a fanlight. A moulded flat canopy with a moulded soffit is supported by two fluted columns and two half columns, with a similar porch at the rear.
Inside, notable features include six panelled doors with fluted surrounds, a plastered ceiling in the hall, a cast iron fire surround, and servants' bells in the rear room. The property is enclosed by attached cast iron railings that have ornate fleur-de-lis heads, two gateways, and open square plan ornate posts with finials, with gates that match the design of the railings.
