Description
61 and 62 West Street are two houses built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They feature red Flemish-bond brickwork and a large clay plain tile gabled roof. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and cellars, and have two ridgeline stacks, one of which is a 20th-century rebuild. There are two hipped dormers with two-light casements; the dormer for No. 61 has small panes, while No. 62 has an asymmetrical right vent. The flanks of the houses are covered in painted boarding, and the gutter is concealed behind a moulded timber cornice.
On the exterior, the first floor has two large square flush double-hung sash windows with moulded surrounds and small panes. There are three blind window recesses interspersed with windows, all featuring steeply raked rubbed brick arches. The ground floor has two similar double-hung sash windows and two 20th-century pedimented doorcases on panelled pilasters. The doors are recessed at the head of a flight of three steps and have six panels, with the upper two being glazed. There is an opening with a moulded surround leading to a yard passage, which has a rectangular glazed fanlight. A painted plinth at the base includes two cellar vents with iron grilles. The interior has not been inspected.
