Description
These are two late 18th-century dwellings on West Street in Harwich. The houses are built of red Flemish-bond brickwork and have a gabled clay tile roof. They are two storeys high with attics, featuring two flat-roofed dormers, each containing a 2-light casement window with small panes. The front facade is symmetrical and features a plain parapet. The first floor has two square, flush double-hung sashes with small panes, set within rubbed brick flat arches. The ground floor is similarly composed of two sashes and two doors, one at each outer edge. The door to number 41 has a 20th-century replacement door, a small projecting hood, and a moulded architrave. The door to number 42 serves as a yard entrance and also has a 20th-century door, along with remnants of an early 19th-century cornice and reeded frieze. A large ridgeline stack sits centrally on the roof. Inside number 41 is a tight winder staircase leading to the attic.
