Description
No. 37 West Street is a house with attached iron railings, dating from the early 19th century. It features red Flemish-bond brickwork with some traces of tuck pointing and has a gabled roof covered in Welsh slate. The building stands three storeys tall and includes cellars.
On the exterior, there is a wide eaves overhang. The second floor has a recessed wide shallow double-hung sash window with eight panes, flanked by reeded surrounds, next to a blind window recess. The first floor has two similar double-hung sash windows of squarish proportion and a central blind window recess. All the windows are topped with flat rubbed brick arches. The ground floor also has two similar windows and a central doorcase featuring reeded and banded jambs, a reeded architrave, roundels at the intersections, and a flat hood. The contemporary pine door has six flush panels. Access is provided by a flight of three stone steps, and there is a high black plinth with two cellar openings.
The property is complemented by high-quality wrought-iron and cast-iron railings on ball feet, resting on stone curbs. The interior has not been inspected.
