Description

A pair of identical houses built in the early 19th century on West Street, Harwich. They are located on the southwest side of the street. The houses are constructed of red Flemish-bond brickwork; No. 34 has a rendered facade, but the arches are exposed. The roofs are gabled and covered with clay plain tiles, with No. 33 having handmade tiles and No. 34 having machine-made tiles. Each house has a two-light casement windowed dormer behind a plain parapet, and two storeys with attics and basements. The first floor of each house has a recessed double-hung sash window with small panes, set under a slightly arched head of rubbed brick. The ground floor of each house has a similar window and a simple entrance with three steps leading to a 20th-century four-panelled door. No. 33 has a rendered plinth and a horizontal glazed light to the cellar.
