Description
70 and 72 Bridge Street are a pair of houses built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and feature a Welsh slate roof with an eaves band, a dentilled gable verge, and a central brick ridge stack. The buildings rise three storeys and have a cellar.
The front facade has a two-window range, with full-length sashes on the first floor that have 8/12 panes and narrow glazing bars. These windows are adorned with curved wrought-iron balconies, painted reveals, stepped rusticated voussoirs, and decorative keystones. The first floor also features smaller 4/8 sashes with painted sills, while the ground floor has 8/8 sashes.
At each end of the houses are porches with Doric columns set on deep plinths, pilasters, inward-curving entablatures, decorative fanlights, and 6-panel doors. The porches have three nosed stone steps, with the steps on the right side (leading to No. 70) being renewed. A painted brick plinth with cellar grilles is located below the windows. The interior has not been inspected.
