Description
The Ley School is a former ancillary building to No. 60, now serving as both a house and a school. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped roof covered with renewed clay tiles, which has stepped dentilled eaves and brick stacks—one on the ridge and one on the side.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a five-window range, with a central bay that is pedimented and projects forward. On the first floor, the windows are 2-light, 2-pane casements with segmental brick arches and projecting sills, except for the central window, which includes a mullion and transom, single-pane overlights, and 2-pane casements below. This window is set beneath a tall round brick arch with springers and a keystone, and it has a projecting sill. The ground floor features similar windows below the pediment, with a centrally located entrance that has a similarly arched design, a fanlight with radial glazing bars, a six-panel door, and two stone steps leading up to it. The building also has a painted brick plinth. The interior has not been inspected.
