Description

66 and 68 Bridge Street is a house that has been divided into two properties. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with painted lower courses on the left side. It features a Welsh-slate roof with stone coping, a painted moulded eaves cornice, and two brick end stacks.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a cellar, with a three-window range. There are painted sill bands, three 3/6 sash windows on the second floor, and two 6/6 sash windows on the first floor, all adorned with painted channelled voussoirs and keystones. On the right side, there is a two-storey canted bay window with a pitched leaded roof and sashes, featuring a configuration of 2/2 x 3 plate glass sashes on the first floor and 4/4:6/6:4/4 below. The ground floor has a second canted bay window on the left, similarly designed with a cornice and pitched leaded roof.

The central entrance to No. 66 has a Classical doorcase with three-quarter Doric columns, an entablature with paterae, an open pediment, a decorative fanlight, and a six-panel door, accessed by four stone steps, three of which are nosed. The door at the left end, leading to No. 68, features a fluted round-arched architrave with paterae and an open pediment, a decorative fanlight, a six-panel door, and four stone steps, three of which are nosed. The building has a part-painted, part-rendered plinth with cellar grilles below the windows. At the rear, there is a wing with brick dentilled eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
