Description

The Old Malthouse is a former mill warehouse, later converted into a house. It was originally built in the late 18th or early 19th century and substantially remodelled around 1980. The building is constructed of red brick in an English Garden Wall bond, with a plain tile roof and brick dentilled eaves. The exterior has two storeys and a cellar with a four-window front. The first floor features 3/3-pane top-hung casement windows with painted lintels and sills. The ground floor has 6/6 sash windows with tiled sills and painted channelled voussoirs, a 4/4-pane casement with a painted lintel at the left end, and a small shuttered window under a segmental brick arch on the right. A wide segmental-arched entrance at the left-hand side gives access to the rear of the building. A photograph taken before conversion shows a large carriageway on the left side and a single ground-floor 8/8 sash window. The interior of the building was not inspected.
