Description

25 and 26 West Street are two houses that were originally a single dwelling, built in the early 19th century. They feature red Flemish-bond brickwork and a gabled clay plain tile roof, which includes two hipped clay plain tile roofs at the rear, forming a double pile. The buildings are two storeys high with attics, and they have two flat-roofed casement dormers set behind a plain parapet. A large rectangular chimney stack rises through the roof slope at the northwest gable end.

On the exterior, the first floor has a flush double-hung sash window with small panes and a slightly arched rubbed brick head, flanked by a narrower central blind window opening with a similar arch. The ground floor of No. 25 features an early 19th-century shop front with narrow panelled pilasters that support a simple entablature and fascia, along with a flat hood. The door is from the 20th century and has a plain rectangular fanlight above it. The shop front includes another double-hung sash window and an original entrance with a semicircular brick arch set on painted impost blocks. The door has six raised-and-fielded panels, an architrave with reeded panels, and an Adamesque semicircular fanlight.

Inside No. 26, there are painted softwood spine beams and many contemporary doors with thin moulded architraves. A first-floor room features segmental-arched headed recesses on either side of a projecting fireplace.
