Description
15 and 17 Pen Street is a pair of houses with a ground floor shop or office, built in the early 19th century and altered in the early 20th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and feature a hipped slate roof with a single brick ridge stack.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a four-bay front that includes a plinth, sill bands, and a modillion eaves cornice. On the right side, there is an early 20th-century shop front with plain pilasters and carved brackets. The left side has two sash windows beneath a 20th-century fascia, and there is a 20th-century door in the extension to No. 17. The first floor has four tall plain sash windows, while the second floor features four margin light sashes. All the sash windows are topped with wedge rubbed brick flat arches. Some internal joinery from the same period remains, although the interior has not been inspected.
