Description
No. 37 Pen Street is a pair of houses dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick in English bond and feature a hipped pantile roof with two ridge stacks.
The exterior has three storeys and a three-bay front with deep overhanging eaves. The entrance is an off-centre six-panelled and carved door with a plain overlight, surrounded by panelled pilasters with decorative paterae and a moulded flat hood. To the left of the door is a glazing bar sash window, while to the right is a 20th-century window. On the first floor, there is an off-centre recessed blank opening, with a glazing bar sash to the left and a 20th-century window to the right. The second floor features three smaller openings that are similar in style.
The right-hand elevation facing Threadneedle Street has a similar doorway, flanked by single 20th-century windows. Above this doorway, there is a tall semicircular-headed stair window, with a blank space to the left and a 20th-century window to the right on both upper floors.
Inside both houses, the original stick baluster stair and some contemporary joinery items have been retained.
