Description
This building, known as No 1 The Street, is a house from the 18th century, possibly with earlier origins, and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of painted brick and features a red plain tiled roof, with red brick chimney stacks on the left and at the end left. The structure is two storeys tall, with a single storey range to the left that has a red pantiled roof and a vertically boarded halved door.
The main range has a dentilled eaves cornice and a central band to the left, consisting of three bays. On the first floor, the three windows to the left are original cross transomed casements with pightle hinges and moulded surrounds, while the two windows to the right are small paned casements with two lights. On the ground floor, there are two small paned vertically sliding sash windows on the left, and two shop windows with segmental heads on the right, featuring a slanting canopy on brackets above the right window.
The left door is a six-panel design with plain reveals, a fluted surround, and a frieze. There is a 20th-century two-panelled door with top lights situated between the shop windows and a right vertically boarded door. Inside, most bridging joists are boxed in, and tie beams are supported by iron tie plates. Several 18th-century doors with ironmongery are also present.
