Description
64 and 64A West Street are two houses that were formerly a Bridewell, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They feature red Flemish-bond brickwork with grey Gault quoins, string bands at the levels of the storeys, and a lower part of the cornice. The roof is not visible due to the parapets. The buildings are three storeys high with a symmetrical front. The first and second storeys have square double-hung sash windows that are slightly recessed, with flat rubbed brick arched heads on either side of blind window openings. The ground floor has two similar windows and a central 20th-century doorcase with a simple pediment, leading to an early 19th-century door with six flush panels above three stone steps. The interior has been substantially altered.
