Description
No. 8 Church Street is a shop and flat that dates from the late 18th century, with possible earlier elements. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a gabled roof made of machine-made clay plain tiles. It has two storeys and attics, following a 'T' plan layout, with a rear section that has a slightly taller roofline and a rendered 'T' shaped chimney stack located behind the junction of the roofs.
The front exterior features one gabled dormer with Gothick cusped bargeboards and a finial with a pendant. The gable is weatherboarded and includes a double-hung sash window with six square panes. A boxed gutter with a moulded cornice is present, adorned with a frieze of small arches. On the first floor, there are two flush double-hung sash windows, each containing 16 small square panes. The ground floor showcases a 19th-century shop front with a fascia, a projecting hood, and end consoles above panelled pilasters. It has a three-light window with top ventilator slots and a 19th-century entrance door consisting of four panels with a moulded surround. There are various 20th-century extensions at the rear.
