Description
The railings to the churchyard of St Nicholas date from the 19th century. They are made of cast and wrought iron, featuring spear points and scroll back stays. At the northwest corner and at two entrance ways, the bars are arranged in a circular pattern on octagonal stone curbs, which continue as straight curbs along the intervening lengths. At the church entrance, there are octagonal red brick piers topped with stone copings. These piers support cast-iron 'clustered' Gothick shafts with capitals and bases, which in turn hold a tubular metal pointed arch adorned with wrought-iron scrollwork and a suspended 20th-century lantern. Shorter and simpler lengths of railings connect to the church portal.
