Description

Esplanade Cottage is an 18th-century house located on King's Quay Street in Harwich. It is timber-framed and covered in pebbledash, topped with a gabled plain clay tile roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and cellars. The first floor features a 20th-century bow window with small panes, while a flat-roofed 20th-century dormer includes a small pane double-hung sash window. The plain rendered ground floor also has a 20th-century bow window with small panes and a doorcase adorned with reeded pilasters and a flat hood.

On the northwest gable, there is one double-hung sash window with two vertical glazing bars in the attic, along with two first-floor double-hung sash windows with small panes. This gable is built over the churchyard boundary wall, with a passage leading to the rear of the Hanover public house. Part of the timber frame is exposed and sits directly on the upper brick section of the wall, while the lower part is made of septaria rubble. The building is part of a single timber frame that includes No. 26.

Inside, there is a handed version of a similar dogleg stair to No. 26, featuring turned balusters and a pulvinated moulded string. The first floor retains original late 18th-century simple plaster cornices and doors with moulded architraves.
