Description
Neptune Cottage is an early 19th-century house located on King's Quay Street in Harwich. It is constructed of London stock-type brick laid in Flemish bond and features a gabled, double-range roof covered with Welsh slate. This narrow and tall house has three storeys.
On the second floor, there is a window with a segmental arch, plain glass, and glass louvres in the head. The first floor features a projecting flat-roofed canted bay with shiplap boarding up to the sill. The front face includes a 19th-century double-hung sash window, now fitted with plate glass and glass louvres, while the sides have plain glass. The ground floor has a recessed narrow double-hung sash window with central vertical glazing bars and a door that has a segmental brick arched head. The door consists of six raised-and-fielded panels and a rectangular fanlight with diamond glazing bar patterns.
Inside, there is a dogleg staircase made entirely of pine, featuring column newels and a baluster-like lower part. Several contemporary pine doors with moulded architraves are also present.
