Description

33, 33B, 34 and 34B on King's Quay Street are flats that were originally two houses built in the early 19th century. The buildings feature ashlar rendered brickwork, with No.33 having a low-pitched Welsh slate roof and No.34 topped with a hipped clay plain tile roof. They rise three storeys with attics and have a large, flat-roofed, red brick rear extension added in the 20th century, which includes a stair tower.

The exterior of No.33 showcases a large flat-roofed dormer with a three-light casement window featuring small panes. Each floor has a tripartite double-hung sash window, also with small panes. No.34 features a three-storey bowed projection, similar to the adjacent No.32, adorned with a painted timber entablature and cornice at each floor level. It has three linked double-hung sash windows on each floor, with small panes, stone sills, and panelled sash boxes. The roof includes a flat-roofed dormer similar to that of No.33. Between the two units, there is a projecting flat-roofed double porch supported by small free-standing Tuscan columns, with blocked recessed six-panel doors that have panelled reveals, which have been extensively restored. A rendered stack rises above the southeast flank wall, and there is a cast-iron 19th-century street name plate on the wall of No.34. The front railings of No.33 are from the 19th century, featuring thin uprights and broad spear points, while No.34 has taller, semicircular plan railings from the same period, with shaped spear points. The interior is noted as not being of particular interest.
