Description

This is a late 17th-century house on Church Street, Harwich. The building is timber-framed and now rendered, with a gabled roof covered in plain clay tiles. A large chimney stack is located behind the roof ridge, and there’s a hipped dormer window with a two-light casement. The two storeys feature a wide and a narrow 20th-century double-hung sash window with small panes on the first floor. On the ground floor is a similar window, and a mid-19th century stuccoed door surround featuring a heavy hood supported by moulded consoles. A plain glass fanlight sits above a 20th-century stained timber door. A lean-to extension is present at the rear. The interior retains the original 17th-century timber frame, including stop-chamfered joists and stop-chamfered spine and bridging joists that support the attic floor. Some linen-fold panelling, originally part of a small rear room, has been reused within the house.
