Description

This is a house and shop dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The front is timber-framed and rendered with an ashlar finish, and has an unequal pitched roof covered in Welsh slate. The building is three storeys high, with a further two-and-a-half storeys at the rear. The second floor has two double-hung sash windows with two vertical glazing bars. The first floor has three similar windows. The ground floor contains a double-hung sash window and a mid-19th century shop front featuring a hood supported by consoles, and three door openings flanked by plain pilasters. Two of the doors have glazed panels with semicircular tops. A two-storey extension, built in the 19th century from red brick and covered with a clay pantile roof, is located at the rear.

Inside, some timber framing remains visible, and the front eaves line was raised in the early 19th century, converting the original two-storey-and-attic structure. Number 2 contains a light well under the staircase and a ground floor fireplace with a reused mantel beam, featuring a lamb's tongue stopped chamfered finish.
