Description

Nos. 13, 14, and 15 Churchgate Street is a terrace of three houses built in the early 19th century, with a later 19th-century extension at the rear of No. 15. The buildings are constructed of white brick, with red brick used for the rear walls of Nos. 13 and 14, and feature a slate roof with a parapet and stucco cornice.

The terrace stands three storeys tall and includes cellars, with a seven-window range arranged in a pattern of 1:2:1:2:1, where the centre and ends project slightly forward. All windows are sashes, with 12-pane windows on the first and ground storeys and 6-pane windows on the top storey. The windows have flat gauged arches and stone sills, except for the first storey, which features a raised stucco band at sill level. No. 13 includes a former early 19th-century 12-pane shop window with pilasters and a cornice. The doorways, which have semicircular brick arches, contain 6-panel doors and fanlights with radial glazing bars.

No. 15 is the largest of the three houses and was originally equipped with a coach house and stabling at the rear. Inside, it boasts an original geometric staircase that rises the full height of the house, featuring stick balusters, a wreathed handrail, and bracketed open strings. The interior also includes window shutters with sunk panels, 6-panelled doors with moulded architraves, and moulded plaster cornices. No. 13 has a simple winder stair and an original fireplace surround in the ground storey.
