Description

15 Whiting Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the early 19th century and features a 16th-century rear wing. The front is made of white brick, while the north side is rendered, and the rear is timber-framed, topped with a slate roof. The building has a plain parapet and a moulded stone cornice at the front.

It stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has a two-window range. The windows are small-paned sashes set in plain reveals, painted on the ground storey, with flat gauged arches and projecting stone sills. There is a raised stone band between the first-storey windows. The entrance features a six-panel door within a semicircular-headed brick surround, topped by a fanlight with fan glazing.

Inside, the cellar has a large main ceiling beam and walls covered with 20th-century render. At the back of the entrance hall, there is an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. The front room on the first storey has a moulded plaster cornice and a frieze decorated with floral designs, along with panelled internal window shutters. The timber-framed three-storey rear range overlaps with the adjoining building to the north. A low room on the ground storey has widely spaced joists set flat, some of which have been replaced. No framing is visible on the first storey, and the top storey is an addition.
