Description
Mulberry House is a house located on Magdalen Street, dating from the early 18th century. It features a timber-framed rear wing that was originally a separate house, which has been attached to an early 19th-century brick house that is plastered and colourwashed. The front of the house has a slate roof, while the rear roofs are covered with pantiles.
The early 19th-century facade faces west and is two storeys high with a three-window range. It has a central five-panelled and fielded door that is sheltered by a 20th-century hood supported by consoles. On either side of the door, there are single-storey canted bay windows from the early 20th century, each fitted with 6/6 unhorned sashes in the centre and fixed windows on the canted sides. The first floor features three 6/6 unhorned sashes. The house has a gabled roof with internal gable-end stacks on both the north and south sides. The rear of the house has 20th-century casement windows.
The early 18th-century block is plastered and colourwashed, also two storeys high, and has irregularly-placed 20th-century casements. It features a gabled roof with a central ridge stack. Inside the rear wing, there are chamfered bridging beams and a stick-baluster staircase with turned newels.
