Description
Richmond House is a range of three late 18th-century houses, with the northern two converted into shops. The facade was refaced in gault brick around 1850. The roof is slate-covered, and the building has a four-window front. A 20th-century shop display window is present on the north side. Centrally, there's a 20th-century butcher's shop front with a half-glazed door, which leads to upper domestic accommodation. Richmond House itself, at the south, has a 20th-century horned sash window with a stone lintel, positioned to the right of a 20th-century door. The door is within a 19th-century doorcase featuring scrolled consoles to the hood, above which is a late 18th-century overlight formed of five oval glazed panels. The first floor has five 6/6 sash windows; the third from the left has horns, while the others do not. The roof is hipped, with a ridge stack located slightly left of centre. A two-storey rear wing also features a ridge stack. The interior is largely 20th century, although Richmond House retains an early 19th-century stick-baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail.
