Description

7 Church Street is a house from the early 19th century located in Harwich. The building is constructed of brick covered in Roman cement and features a low-pitched slate roof that is hidden behind a parapet. It has two storeys and a low attic storey.

The front facing Church Street has a five-window arrangement of recessed double-hung sash windows with small panes. There is a moulded cornice below the sill of the smaller attic windows. The central door is recessed and has raised-and-fielded panels on the reveals, although one panel is missing. A moulded string band runs at the first-floor level, and there is a plaque with the Trinity House crest above the door. The ground-floor windows are unsubdivided.

The building has a curved corner on the Church Lane facade, which is similar in style but features a four-window range on the upper two floors, with two smaller windows added on the first floor. The ground floor has three unsubdivided double-hung sash windows and a wide service opening, topped by a similar plaque. This area has 20th-century infill with reeded pilasters and an architrave. There is also a two-storey painted brick extension with a machine-made clay plain tile roof and a truncated stack.

Inside, the house retains an early 19th-century open-well staircase with panelling up to the dado on the sides.
