Description
A group of five head and footstones, dating from the early to mid 18th century, is located approximately 9 metres southeast of the south porch of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Barling Magna, Little Wakering. These stones belong to the Cattlin family and feature scrolled tops and sides with carved heads. The inscriptions include: (1) M. Cattlin 1737, with a cherub and scrolled foliage; (2) John Cattlin 1728, marked with a skull and crossbones; (3) Mary Cattlin, date unknown, also with a skull and crossbones; (4) James Cattlin 1729, featuring a skull and crossbones; and (5) James Cattlin 1753, which includes a skull, cherub, and book.
