Description

A group of six headstones located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, immediately north of the Elizabeth Lockwood cross and south of the south aisle, date from the early 18th century. They are made of limestone. The headstone at the west end of the group is from the mid to late 18th century and features a cartouche-like inscription plaque with three winged angels' heads at the top, although there is no legible inscription.

To the east, there is a pair of headstones about 2.5 meters away. The segmental-headed headstone on the left is dated 1718 and has a partially legible inscription, with a moulded capping that includes a shell-like motif at the center of the top. The headstone immediately to the right has a broken left-hand side and features a partially legible inscription with a moulded margin and curving brackets at the top.

Further north, another pair of headstones is located about 2.5 meters away. The left-hand stone is dated 1714 and has a partially legible inscription, a segmental head with a shell-like motif at the center of the top, and barley-twist margins on either side of the inscription. The headstone to the right is dated 1703 and also has a partially legible inscription, with swags on either side and two curving brackets at the top.

Finally, about 3 meters to the east is a single headstone for Thomas Randell, who died in 1700. This headstone features a raised roll-moulded margin, scrollwork carving, and quadrant corners.
