Description
The Little Priory is a former wing of The Priory, located on High Street, Prestbury, and now occupied separately. It was built in the mid-18th century and extended in 1886. The building is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof, with concrete tiles on a rear lean-to extension. Restored ashlar stacks, dating to the 20th century, are present on the main body, while brick stacks serve the 19th-century extension.
The main body of the building is rectangular with a single-storey extension to the right and a late 19th-century extension to the rear left. The two-storey, three-bay facade features two 12-pane sash windows within wide, flush frames and finely dressed stone surrounds on the lower left. A 20th-century plank door with studded fillets is centrally positioned, flanked by narrow glazed hall lights, all sheltered by an almost continuous stopped hood. Above, two 3-light stone-mullioned casements, likely dating to the 19th century, are visible. A central bull's-eye window with decorative leaded panes and decorated glass is set within a rectangular carving featuring leaf motifs in the upper spandrels and floral designs in the lower. A similar bull's-eye window is found in the rear wall. Flat coping is present at the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
