Description

This is a group of four 18th-century headstones located between 6 and 18 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. All four headstones are upright sandstone slabs, standing between 300 and 600 millimeters high. The closest headstone to the church is the smallest, featuring a head that curves over a carved rosette. It bears an inscription in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the death of William Camfield in 1767. Another similar headstone commemorates Elizabeth Weller, who died in 1770. The third headstone has a double curvilinear shaped head, each side inscribed with crossed arrows above a fielded panel, and it commemorates John Richardson (the date of burial is not specified). The fourth headstone has a shaped head inscribed with crossed arrows flanked by hearts, recording the death of Thomas Dine in 1763.
