Description

This is a group of three headstones located one metre east of the east wall of the chancel at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. They date from the early 18th century and commemorate the Sumner family. Each headstone features a scrolled head. The northern stone is dedicated to Sumner and is dated 1732, adorned with a cherub head, bells, and foliage. The central stone commemorates Alice Sumner and is dated in the 17th century, featuring a skull and crossbones. The southern stone is for Thomas Sumner, dated 1734, and also displays a skull and crossbones.
