Description
This barn, located approximately 30 metres east of Beavis Hall, dates back to the 16th century and incorporates medieval timber. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a roof clad in corrugated iron. The barn has an outshot to the left and a gabled midstrey, and it currently consists of four bays. In around 1936, the bays facing the road were removed to accommodate road widening. The barn has one aisle and includes arched braces supporting the tie beams, with some arched braces still present in the roof. It has jowled storey posts and a side purlin roof that is pegged at the ridge. A 13th or 14th century splayed scarf joint is visible in the top plate, indicating the use of re-used timber. The floor is stone flagged and dates from the 19th century. The barn has good group value with Beavis Hall and Birch Cottage.
