Description

The Elms is a house dating from the 18th to 19th century, constructed of red brick with hipped double range grey slate roofs. It features two red brick chimney stacks topped with square yellow chimney pots. The building has three storeys and a cellar, with a moulded parapet that has stone coping. There are five circular tie plates and a moulded band beneath the parapet. The façade includes a three-window range of vertically sliding sashes with glazing bars set under segmental arches. The ground floor windows on the right and left are positioned in recessed arches with a band above. The second floor windows alternate with recessed panels that have moulded quatrefoils.

The entrance boasts a fine doorway in the Tuscan order, with moulded bases and capitals on the columns, a moulded frieze, and a moulded flat canopy. The reveal panels feature a six-panelled door topped with a traceried semi-circular light. Inside, notable features include a wreathed handrail on a dogleg stick staircase, a moulded hall arch, six-panelled doors with moulded surrounds, and moulded cornices and wainscots. The drawing room has a bow window and panelled window shutters. Additionally, there is a red brick wall attached to the northwest corner of the house that encloses the garden to the north and west.
