Description

Stock Hall Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries, with documentary evidence from around 1319. It has undergone alterations and additions in the 17th, 18th, and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs. A large square red brick chimney stack is attached to the right range.

The farmhouse features two storeys in the left crosswing and left hipped bay, while the right side has one storey and attics with two gabled dormers. The windows include a range of various 19th-century multi-light casements with central glazing bars, along with small paned vertically sliding sashes in the bay. The ground floor right windows are adorned with pentice boards. To the right of the bay, there is a four-panelled two-light door with a moulded surround and frieze, supported by moulded brackets and a flat canopy. Additionally, there is a 20th-century glazed door with a moulded surround and a flat canopy on brackets between the ground floor right windows.

Inside, the farmhouse features much exposed timber, including chamfered bridging joists, halved arched bracing in the crosswing frame, and collars for each rafter pair. Original mullion windows are present, along with a halved and bridled top plate scarf. There are two inglenook fireplaces and several well-crafted corner cupboards. The 17th and 18th-century vertically boarded doors retain their original ironmongery. One room on the first floor has rows of dowel holes in the wall studs, suggesting it may have originally served as a cheese loft.
