Description

This barn dates to the late 16th century, situated on the north side of Hatfield Heath Road. It is a timber-framed structure, now clad in weatherboarding and with a corrugated iron roof. The barn comprises four bays oriented northeast-southwest, featuring an aisle along the northwest side and a midstrey (a central bay used for threshing) on the southeast side. There are lean-to extensions to the southeast. The northeast end of the roof has a half-hip. Notable features include jowled posts, arched braces supporting the tiebeams and arcade plate, and tiebeams which are either straight or exhibit irregular natural curvature. The roof structure incorporates a queen post. The foundations are constructed of red bricks laid in English bond, with 20th-century repairs utilizing fletton bricks and cement mortar.
