Description

Mulberry Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage that was extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with weatherboarding and a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has three bays aligned approximately north-south, with an external chimney stack from the 17th century on the west side of the middle bay and a 19th-century external stack on the west side of the northern bay. There is a stair in a lean-to on the west side, which is likely original. The roof has been extended with cast corrugated tiles to cover a 20th-century west wing that includes a garage. Additionally, there is a small lean-to extension to the north and a projecting bay to the south, which may have been a former shop window, also roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The cottage is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there is a garage door, a six-panel door, and a 20th-century casement window in the projecting bay. The first floor features a round window that lights the stair and one 20th-century casement window. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. The floors of the middle and northern bays have chamfered axial beams, which are plastered to the soffits of the joists, with well-cut concave stops present only in the middle bay. The floor of the southern bay has exposed joists arranged longitudinally.
