Description

This is a late 17th-century lobby-entrance house located in Matching Green. The house is timber-framed and largely weatherboarded, with a predominantly thatched roof. It originally comprised three bays aligned approximately north-east to south-west, featuring an axial chimney stack in the central bay, which is characteristic of a lobby-entrance plan. An original service wing is located to the rear of the north-east bay. A short extension, with a roof of handmade red clay tiles, was added to the north-west end. A two-storey extension with a flat roof was added to the rear of the south-west bay in the 20th century. The building is single storey with attics. The front features a door with a shallow hood and three 20th-century casement windows. Two swept dormers with 20th-century casement windows are visible in the roof. The roof is half-hipped. Inside, the north-east bay exhibits chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops arranged axially, while the south-west bay displays similar beams arranged laterally. The soffits of the joists are ceiled. Although roof access is not available, it appears to have a clasped purlin roof structure.
