Description
The Limes is a house built in the early 18th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a roof made of handmade red clay tiles, complete with stone copings on the parapets and gables. The building has a double pile plan with the entrance elevation facing southwest. Inside, there is a central entrance and staircase hall, and two internal chimney stacks located at each end. The roof is M-shaped, with ridges aligned northwest to southeast and double gables.
To the northwest, there is a rear extension with a hipped roof from the 19th century, along with a lean-to extension featuring a slate roof in the western angle, also from the 19th century. A lean-to conservatory is located on the southeast side. The house has two storeys.
On the southwest elevation, there is a central six-panel door, with the upper four panels glazed, set within a flat-roofed porch supported by two wooden Doric columns on plinths. The porch also has pilasters with recessed fronts and a dentilled cornice. There are four double-hung sash windows with 12 lights each, the upper sashes being segmental at the top, all under segmental arches made of gauged brickwork. The first floor features five similar windows and one double-hung sash window with nine lights in the 19th-century extension. String courses above each line of windows are rendered, and there is a parapet.
The northeast (garden) elevation retains an original bay of three similar windows with straight heads on each floor, plus two additional windows on the first floor, while the other windows are from the 19th century. Inside, the original staircase and plain panelling remain intact throughout, along with 19th-century cast iron grates.
