Description

This milestone, dating from around 1814, is located on the northern verge of the road, approximately 100 metres east of Tom Tit Lane and next to the left side of a bus shelter. It stands about one metre tall and is set diagonally to the road. The top of the milestone is halved to create a flat face, on which the words "Woodham Mortimer" can be discerned. This is the only surviving milestone on this road from a set that was installed by the parish at a cost of £7-7s, as noted by J. Booker in "Essex and the Industrial Revolution" published by the Essex Record Office in 1974.
