Description
Caidge Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, featuring a rear wing with later alterations and additions that include details from the 18th and 19th centuries in the front range. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs. It has red brick chimney stacks on the rear and left sides. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window range with various small paned vertically sliding sashes. This includes three tripartite windows on the first floor and two bays on the ground floor, one adorned with brackets supporting a cornice and the other featuring a moulded and dentilled cornice. There is an enclosed gabled porch with a two-panel, two-light door that has a moulded surround and a moulded label above it. Inside, the rear features a heavy chamfered bridging joist and some exposed timber, along with a flagstone floor. Caidge Farmhouse is recognized as one of the manors of Southminster.
