Description
Ratsborough Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 15th and 16th centuries for the rear wings, with an 18th-century front range and 19th-century facing. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring a red brick facing on the front range, which has a half hipped red plain tiled roof and a stone canopy to the parapet. There is an off-centre left red brick chimney stack. The house is two storeys tall with attics and has a four-window range of early 20th-century casements. The 18th-century door surround includes half-rounded columns, a moulded semi-circular arch, a moulded frieze, and reveal panels.
Inside, there are moulded surrounds to six-panelled doors, two 18th-century fire surrounds with moulded panelling above, and panelled cupboards. The interior also features a moulded cornice, moulded skirtings and dados, and moulded segmental arches to alcoves. Some doors have H and L hinges, and there is a six-panelled kitchen door with a moulded surround. The original rear wings include heavy chamfered bridging joists and flat ceiling beams, with a later applied jowl to the storey post and some exposed wall studs.
